About Dr. Chris Shaw, Phd

I am currently the principal investigator of a lab within the department of Ophthalmology/Medicine at UBC and also an associate professor and associate member within the departments of Physiology, Experimental Medicine, and the Graduate Program in Neuroscience. I began my post-secondary education in California with a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of California Irvine. I continued my education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem with a M.Sc. in Physiology and a Ph.D. in Neurobiology. I then spent several years here in Canada at Dalhousie University, first as a post-doctoral fellow, and then as a research associate, before beginning my affiliation with UBC. My research over the years has focussed on two key areas: neuroplasticity and neuropathology. When I first arrived at UBC, most of my work was directed toward an understanding of the mechanisms underlying receptor regulation and has resulted in numerous reviews. The outcome of these studies laid the groundwork for a reevaluation of current theories of neuroplastic phenomenon such as long-term potentiation, and for the role that abnormal receptor regulation may play in some neurodegenerative disorders. The current research focus of my laboratory is on ALS-parkinsonism dementia complex. Most ongoing studies here target various facets of this neurodegenerative disease through our mouse model using an environmental neurotoxin called cycad (Cycas circinalis).

The controversy over the Swine Flu ( H1N1 ) Vaccines have focused primarily on the safety of the adjuvants and preservatives used in the vaccines. Adjuvants are used to cause a hyper immune reaction in order to make the vaccine more effective. Many experts are questioning the safety of vaccines and their adjuvants but the mainstream media has been portraying these professionals in a negative light. Dr. Chris Shaw joins us on Health Empowerment News to talk about his research results on squalene and aluminum vaccine adjuvants.

Anyone knowing the basics of biology should know:
1. That all vaccines by their very nature are antigens and that every antigen by defintion must be a foreign protein or a substance attached to one’s own or some other foreign protein;
2. That no foreign protein can be absorbed into the blood stream unless it is digested in the alimentary canal into its basic amino acids;
3. That it is these amino acids which after being absorbed into the blood stream are reconstituted into one’s own proteins and it is these proteins which distinguishes every being of existence into self and non-self.
4. That any interference or tampering with these laws of existence can bring calamity to the being in which it occurs such as by causing auto-immune conditions like autism, etc.
This is precisely what may be occurring due to vaccine injections in people. Surprisingly, I am presently the only scientist who is reminding about this phenomenon of existence. If I am wrong I would like to be corrected by those claiming to possess better knowledge of same.
The foreign proteins in vaccines originate from not only the infectious organisms against which one wishes to produce infection-fighting antibodies but also the artificial media in which these organisms are grown. Contained in such media may include one or more of the following materials: bovine serum, horse serum, chicken egg, monkey kidney, insect cells and even human fetal cells.
Apart from the foreign proteins, vaccines may also contain other harmful substances, including mercury, aluminum, formalin, oily adjuvants, etc., plus untold number of stray viruses with the potential to cause cancer, HIV, serum-hepatitis, and so on.
Meanwhile, evidence indicates that except for smallpox, no other infectious disease, e.g.: tuberculosis, cholera, typhoid, anthrax, measles, mumps, rubella, DPT, polio, influenza and others,has been eradicated and that this continues to be so despite the decades of vaccinations against each of these diseases. Also, during the same period, the incidence of many previously uncommon diseases, such as autism, diabetes, allergies, andcancer, has been increasing in pandemic proportions.

I feel that it is time to demand a moratorium on, at least, the compulsory vaccinations for children, health care professionals and military personnel until such time that these issues are reviewed and discussed in an open and transparent manner with the due involvement of the public.

A 19-year-old male military recruit developed erythema multiforme 20 days after receiving a triad of vaccinations: smallpox (vaccinia virus), anthrax, and tetanus. Over the course of a few days, the erythema multiforme evolved into Stevens-Johnson syndrome, associated with widespread bullae, stomatitis, conjunctivitis, and fever. After 7 days of conservative management, the patient’s signs and symptoms improved. Right now the World Health Organization/ Big Pharma is scaremongering a massive world wide swine flu vaccination program to be instituted in the fall of 2009.

The politicians, the health bureaucrats and the media have not learned from history but perhaps you will learn if you watch 1979 CBS 60 Minute’s segment of Mike Wallace’s interview (below) with one victims of the 1976 Swine Flu vaccine and the bureaucrat responsible.

The following are comments by the FDA scientist who warned that the 1976 Swine Flu vaccine would cause more harm than it would ever prevent. For his effort as a true scientist and humanitarian he was fired and his FDA laboratory was dismantled and on going experiments were destroyed.

“There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza. In A REPORT TO THE CONSUMER (Sept., 75), a long time friend, the late much loved Ida Honorof, presented a compilation of data from the National Institute of Health—Division of Biologic Standards, Bulletin of World Health Organization, and Dr. J. Anthony Morris, former Director of a branch of FDA Virus research. Dr. Morris’ findings showed that the flu vaccine, when inhaled by lab. animals “tended to enhance cancerous tumors.” Pregnant women had been on the preferred list for shots until findings indicated that certain substances in flu vaccine “could pose a serious threat of fetal damage to women who might become pregnant. . .”

Does anyone ever read the vaccine maker’s insert listing potential risks of side effects caused by the flu shot (all vaccines for that matter)?

Guillaume Barre syndrome is one of those dangers listed.

The Swine Flu has been steadily spreading worldwide and has followed a similar pattern to the seasonal flu. The Canadian Medical Association Journal editor-in-chief, Dr. Paul Hebert, is suggesting Canada needs a national swine flu czar with greater legislative powers than Canada’s Chief Health officer.

I don’t know what legislative powers he is referring to, but it raises the question of whether or not we will have mandatory H1N1 vaccinations in Canada.  So far, the Swine Flu has not been any more dangerous than the seasonal flu but experts are worried that the H1N1 virus will mutate  into a much more virulent and deadly form. The development of H1N1 Vaccines has been fast tracked and will be brought to market without adequate human testing for safety and efficacy.  In addition, the pharmaceutical industry has been granted legal immunity from any damages resulting from the H1N1 Vaccines which are reported to contain adjuvants like squalene, live attenuated virus and heavy metals such as mercury and aluminum.

In my opinion, educating the the public about natural ways to prevent and deal with flu is a superior policy than recommending (or requiring) the population to be inoculated with an unproven, untested and possibly dangerous vaccine.

… In an editorial in this week’s journal, the editor-in-chief Dr. Paul Hebert says the country needs a national champion with the necessary legislative powers to be able to facilitate the response across provincial and territorial boundaries.

Hebert says the health czar for flu should convene a summit to link public health officials, critical care staff, first responders and other decision makers and community planners to ensure actions taken will work in practice.

Hebert says Canada has done a lot of pandemic planning, but there are holes in the plan that need to be fixed before flu activity picks up again in the fall or winter.

He says the czar he envisages would have more powers than Canada’s chief public health officer, a post held by Dr. David Butler-Jones…

The Swine Flu hysteria is sweeping North America and around the world, much like it did several years ago with the Avian Flu. Almost all media sources are focusing on this story and many people are concerned. Watching the news can increase anxiety even without an impending pandemic added to the mix. But is it really a pandemic or has it been blown out of proportion? Keep reading and learn about a natural remedy that can protect you against the Flu or the Common Cold.

The Flu Virus:

The flu (Influenza) is a contagious disease caused by viruses that affect birds and mammals. The common symptoms of the disease include chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness and general discomfort. Fever and coughs are the most typical of these. In serious cases the flu causes pneumonia which is more dangerous, especially for the very young and very old.

The Flu may cause vomiting and nausea but is much more common in gastroenteritis which is unrelated to the flu virus but is commonly referred to as The Stomach Flu. The Flu is often confused with the less dangerous illness, the common cold, which is caused by a different type of virus.

The Flu can be spread through the air by coughs or sneezes. Bird droppings, saliva, nasal fluid, feces and blood can also spread the disease. Contact with these substances or contaminated objects such as door handles, counter tops or writing utensils can spread the flu.

Composition of the Swine Flu:

Contains DNA of Bird Flu, Human Flu and two different strains of Swine Flu. The genetic code in the virus is for the most part made up of human flu and therefore is unlikely to be transmitted between animals. Because of the complexity of the origins of the swine flu some websites and conspiracy theorists are claiming that The Swine Flu is not natural and has been manufactured in a laboratory. This is an entertaining idea and would make a great movie but until there is proof lets leave it at that for now.

The Swine Flu seems to have low mortality rates compared to the Avian Flu which is approximately 90%. With the Swine Flu we appear to have less than a 6% mortality rate. If there is going to be a pandemic it won’t be as devastating as an Avian Flu outbreak.

What is a pandemic? The term brings images of bodies piled up in school gymnasiums but this isn’t the case. A pandemic is simply an infectious disease that is spreading throughout the world. It doesn’t have any meaning associated with a certain level of damage caused by the virus.

So far the virus has claimed one life out of 141 confirmed cases in the United States and the majority of the cases have been mild. In Mexico, there were initial reports of 150 deaths from the Swine Flu but the Mexican Health Minister could only confirm 12 verified deaths from the Swine Flu as of April 29^th.

Drugs or Vaccines for the Swine Flu?

As of yet there is no vaccine against the Swine Flu.

Tamiflu and Relenza are anti-viral drugs that prevent viral replication. They are available by prescription and this class of drug is the only pharmaceutical defense against the Swine Flu.

As a result of the Avian Flu scare, governments purchased billions of dollars worth of Tamiflu three years ago. Unfortunately, the tamiflu expires after three years so the current stockpile is expired or about to expire.

The 1976 Swine Flu

The last Swine Flu scare was in 1976 and health officials rushed through the process of developing a vaccine. The anti viral for this Swine Flu resulted in 1 out of 100,000 vaccinated Americans developing Guillain-Barre paralysis. The US government paid out $93 million in compensation. Health and Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius announced at a press conference that the swine flu vaccine development is in full gear, “The process is more speedy than it’s ever been before”.

She stated that although they are working quickly they are keeping safety their top priority. She acknowledged the fears of the 1976 swine flu scare and the increased rates of Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Prevention:

• Washing your hands with soap and water, or using an alcohol-based hand gel if soap is not available. A Nano-Silver Gel is highly effective at killing viruses and bacteria as well.

• Avoiding close contact with sick people.

• Not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.

• Staying home if you are ill.

• Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throwing the tissue in the trash afterward, then washing your hands.

Treatment:

In addition to the prescription anti-viral drugs Tamiflu and Relenza, there are a number of natural treatments for influenza infection.

One natural flu remedy that I have personally used is the Flu Stop. A Vancouver area company, Trinity Healthy Living Products is the manufacturer of this proprietary herbal blend. The Flu STOP formula was discovered by a virologist in China during the SARS epidemic. His formula effectively killed the SARS virus and also effectively deactivates the flu and certain types of Cold Viruses (Rhino Virus).

FluSTOP has been clinically proven via WHO standards to inactivate the Hemagglutinin (HA) and Neuraminidase (NA) in “type A” viruses. The Swine Flu is of this type. When HA and NA are inactivated the virus is unable to infect healthy cells and replicate.

The Flu STOP product comes packaged in a spray bottle with an easy to use applicator. It is very important to spray the FluSTOP directly to the back of the throat because this is where the Flu virus replicates. The sooner you begin using the FluSTOP the better. As soon as symptoms appear the protocol is five sprays to the back of the throat and one to each nostril, five times per day. After spraying do not eat or drink tea or coffee for at least half an hour to ensure exposure of the virus to the formula.

I have used this product for two years now and when flu symptoms start, I immediately start using FluSTOP. Usually, the symptoms fade away quickly and I don’t get sick. And if I do get a flu it is much milder than it would have been and certainly less potent than other people I know here in Vancouver who didn’t want to try the FluSTOP for whatever reason.
